first i wanna say that i have watched tormental before he quit tos, but i haven't bothered to watch the ones where he hates on the staff. well, I was bored, so now I did. and he had proof that bmg was doing shady stuff.

he said how mods/devs were being really mean to him and banning him just because he wanted to make a suggetion, lots of other mean mods, and them being really cheap with the merit points (kind of agree with). so this makes me worried that i just paid for a game that has "money-grabbing assholes" etc.

now is bmg staff really that bad? they're good with their updates. and maybe those were a few bad ones out of the whole thing (how big is the bmg staff anyway?) because i really disagree with the stuff they did, but maybe tormental is overreacting? what are your opinions

Believe that BMG staff is only 7 people that are underpayed and they have to pay to keep the game running smoothly, also with the Town of salem card game that they have made for a few extra funds, Steam which players get rewards for buying ToS on steam. So excuse them for being "money-hungry".

And in ToS forum defense, he did attack people and the staff and broke the forums rules and was given warnings. (I was there when it happened) And all that happened was that he was banned from the forums.

Then Tormental decided "No more ToS" and got his youtube fans to go on strike against BMG. And because the media is powerful, they did go on strike (except for a few that were like me, I already had about 500 games at that point, you are not making me go against a game I have stocked up time in) We had a few little vandals, but nothing much happened to the wikia because they were attacking the core.

I unsubbed once he continued attacking ToS staff on youtube.

    • Eh, drama. I paid my 5 Euros on Steam, played a thousand games, and stopped playing over a year ago - I'm not in a position to complain! I like to think I pay back a bit more by being an admin on the wiki.

The discussion about having more than 1000 friends is silly. From a programming perspective, there is barely any difference between 1000 and 100000, especially since these limits aren't even reached by most players. If you talk about data load, sending information about the online status of 1000 people takes about 125 Byte. That is about the size of a small text file.

I am not active outside of the wiki, so I don't know how much truth is in his depictions of staff behavior. It's enough for me to have good staff members on the wiki!

    • Both sides did some wrong and unfortunately there are folks who only listen to one side of the story. Some things off the top of my head... I don't remember too much detail from his videos:

Torm kept going on about some staff member's girlfriend and the staff favoring this girlfriend. ...There was no girlfriend. It was a man who wasn't associated with BMG but Torm was fixated on saying that this girlfriend [really some random guy] definitely was.

Torm was upset that BMG stole his ideas ... "His" ideas were requested multiple times in the forums by players.

Torm was banned from the game. This is true. The ban was undone in about/under 15 minutes. The creator who banned him acknowledged it was a knee-jerk reaction from being annoyed with Torm and the creator apologized for it. The ban remained on the forums due to Torm's behavior there. (Like HAWAIIAN, I was also there to see the posts before they were deleted.) Again with the whole story of mods favoring the "girlfriend" over Torm. He wouldn't own up that he was being very rude.

The creator lied about Torm asking to raise the friend limit before the 1000 limit. This very well may true. Why would the dev lie? Eh, who knows. His memories may be distorted which is normal as more time passes or maybe he wanted to take a shot at Torm. Really can't say. Torm's fans did go to the forums and Twitch streams to ask to raise the limit despite being told no. Someone supposedly made a joke which he took out of hand as a threat.

People have gone on about the devs taking a vacation in Europe and yet no one for whatever stopped to think... Maybe they're human? Maybe humans like to go on vacation? Maybe it was a trip planned ahead of time? Maybe it was partially a gift from family? But so many people were on the bandwagon to hate. The co-founder ended up responding to this:

"I guess we should clear this up so people stop bringing up our personal lives during business discussions. Yes, Josh and I went to Europe to help decompress from the stress of the Kickstarter. The trip was a budget trip where we stayed with a friend of mine in Holland instead of in expensive hotels. We did not spend much on the trip. Most of it went onto our personal credit cards. Josh and I are making less as the founders of BlankMediaGames than we would at any other job with our skills. We use the profit from the company to re-invest back into the game and our employees. I understand some people did not like the Merit point change but please don't bring our personal lives into the discussion." (Reference)

Merit Points - Torm made a video on it but it doesn't fully explain things. It makes it sound like BMG is some monster hungry for money. Let's be real here. We all know how the Merit Points system works. You basically need to wait a few months to buy a cosmetic with Merit Points. Is that really the most cruel thing ever? It doesn't affect the gameplay at all. BMG did somewhat wrong though (depeding how you look at it) which they have acknowledged. They maybe should have given users a head up about the Merit Point change. But by playing the game, players agree to the Terms of Use.

Again, some people will blindly follow a person instead of thinking for themselves and investigating both sides. For example, there are folks who seem to genuinely believe that the creators pocketed $500,000 from the Kickstarter. Do they understand that making a card game isn't free and that shipping isn't free? Do they get that BMG has to pay their employees and pay to have their game online? But the Steam profits! - They don't get the full profits and a lot of times the game is on sale. Money also needs to go back into the game and not directly into pockets.

Yeah, there are seven staff members: http://www.blankmediagames.com/the-company/

The creator may has appeared unprofessional a few times, but as a person, I can't blame him. Having to read a bunch of people complaining would take a toll on someone. The ones who have to complain are going to be much louder than the ones who are feeling content. For anyone who has ever had friends who were constantly negative or for anyone who has ever worked in retail - you know that flummery gets old fast. From a professional standpoint, the creator's blowup wasn't the best thing to happen. From what I've seen, the community manager does a phenomenal job responding to players and keeping a cool head, so thank goodness for him.

Here we are about to end 2016 and Town of Salem is still a game that's free to play. Is life really that bad? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

      tormental's response

"Torm kept going on about some staff member's girlfriend and the staff favoring this girlfriend." This is false. It was a discussion in one thread between me and the person in question. This person had been called a GF of a staff member in the past and didn't correct it, leading me to think it was true. So I was asking why they didnt' correct it. " ...There was no girlfriend. It was a man who wasn't associated with BMG" Not a big difference, it's still preferential treatment for someone associated with BMG, no? "but Torm was fixated on saying that this girlfriend [really some random guy] definitely was." Do not lie in my comments. Once this person said they weren't, I accepted that and asked why they never corrected it before. I wasn't "fixated" on anything, and if you continue to make false accusations you will be removed. "Torm was upset that BMG stole his ideas ... "His" ideas were requested multiple times in the forums by players." No, I pointed out that Josh specifically asked me to send him a list of ideas and then copy/pasted it into an update notice. I didn't say I was the first to come up with the ideas, and in fact said I probably wasn't the first. This is more nonsense. "Torm was banned from the game. This is true. The ban was undone in about/under 15 minutes." No, it wasn't 15 minutes. Lying. "The ban remained on the forums due to Torm's behavior there." No, it was due to the videos. I did nothing warranting a ban on the forum. If you disagree, show me others perma-banned for a single argument. ... Thought so. "Again with the whole story of mods favoring the "girlfriend" over Torm." That's not the case at all. It wasn't "over Torm", it was that a person was being given a pass on multiple reports of cheating, etc. which was even backed up by a moderator who wondered why they were getting passes. It's not "over" anyone, it's the fact they weren't being removed for 'illegal' behavior due to knowing the Devs. "He wouldn't own up that he was being very rude." I frequently call myself a dick and a douche, so this is another lie. "The creator lied about Torm asking to raise the friend limit before the 1000 limit. This very well may true." It's proven in black and white. There's no "may" about it. "Why would the dev lie? Eh, who knows." He's a scammer and a con artist who has committed Kickstarter fraud. "Torm's fans did go to the forums and Twitch streams to ask to raise the limit despite being told no." So what? Non-issue, people can ask for whatever they want. "Someone supposedly made a joke which he took out of hand as a threat." Now you're just pretending thinks are 'jokes' when it suits you. "People have gone on about the devs taking a vacation in Europe and yet no one for whatever stopped to think... Maybe they're human?" That's nowhere near the point. The point is they claim to be overworked, starving, poor, etc. but they go on European tours and rent Vegas hotels. You've either missed the point or you are deliberately misrepresenting the problem. Given the fibs you've already told, I can't say for sure. "Maybe humans like to go on vacation? Maybe it was a trip planned ahead of time? Maybe it was partially a gift from family?" None of that matters to the point being made. "[Whining and bullshit from Josh about the trip]" If they don't want their personal lives in the discussion THEY SHOULD NOT BRING THEIR PERSONAL LIVES INTO THE DISCUSSION THEMSELVES, which is what they did by saying they're starving and poor. Learn to reality. "Merit Points - Torm made a video on it but it doesn't fully explain things. It makes it sound like BMG is some monster hungry for money." They are. There's no question. "You basically need to wait a few months to buy a cosmetic with Merit Points. Is that really the most cruel thing ever?" Where was it said to be "cruel"? Stop all this straw man bullshit and be honest. I'm not wasting any more time answering the rest of this garbage. You're an obvious fanboy or associate trying to do damage control at the cost of the truth, and I'm not interested in talking to you anymore.

Not interested in getting directly into drama with a stranger online. I've seen the forum posts and I've watched out of curiosity his videos complaining about BMG. People are free to think what they will. I've said my piece. BMG has said theirs. Torm has shared his piece. That's all there is to it.
