Format for claims: Edit

Each role will contain these things.

  • Role
  • Investigative result
  • Pros
  • Cons
  • What roles should claim this

The role claims stated here are by no means infallible. For example, a Sheriff can immediately find a member of the Mafia other than the Godfather. However, they provide a comprehensive guide of what to claim and why.

Bodyguard Edit

BodyguardGodfather, or Arsonist - Your target is not afraid to get their hands dirty.

Pros

  1. This role is a Town Protective role, so players should be more reluctant to lynch you.
  2. This role has a bulletproof vest, so you can claim that's why you're immune.

Cons

  1. There's only one Town Protective slot in Ranked, so if another Town Protective claims it, the town may lynch you without any leads.
  2. If you're suspected, especially in all any, note that the investigative result is 2/3 evil, so you might very well be lynched.
  3. Town Protective roles are well 'sought after' by the Mafia, so if you're Arsonist or a Jester, even if you claim it and the potential other Town Protective doesn't counter the claim, you might be screwed by the Mafia.

What roles should claim this:

Not a recommended claim unless in cases where the potential other Town Protective is cleaned and/or you're a Disguiser. However, it's decent for a Mayor that is waiting to reveal. For a Godfather, even though it fits in their investigation result, is a common claim for them and many players do not believe Bodyguard claims anymore.

Doctor Edit

DoctorDisguiser or Serial Killer - Your target is covered in blood.

Pros

  1. This role is a Town Protective role, so players should be more reluctant to lynch you.
  2. This role has a self heal, so you can claim that's why you didn't die.

Cons

  1. There's only one Town Protective slot in ranked, so if the true protective claims it, the town may lynch you without any leads.
  2. If you're suspected, especially in all any, note that the investigative result is 2/3 evil, so you might very well be lynched.
  3. Town Protective roles are well 'sought after' by the Mafia, so if you're an evil role, even if you claim it and the real Town Protective doesn't counter the claim, you might be screwed by the Mafia.

What roles should claim this:

Not a recommended claim unless you have nothing better to claim. However, in cases where the slot is a Town Protective, it is recommended to claim to be a Bodyguard to a Doctor. However, in late-game, you're very unlikely to survive, unless you somehow manage to convince the Town that you've just revealed yourself as the Mayor.

Escort Edit

EscortTransporter, or Consort - Your target is skilled at disrupting others.

Pros

  1. Investigative result is only 1/3 evil
  2. Amazing claim as a Consort.

Cons

  1. Same Abilities as Consort.
  2. Extremely hard to prove if not a Consort.
  3. If you fake a Last Will as an Escort/Transporter, be aware that some people will say that they didn't get role blocked or transported, causing you to get lynched or executed.
  4. If the Random Mafia is not revealed or has not died, the suspicion of being a consort may increase.

What roles should claim this:

This should be the most basic claim as a Consort - of course, there are other possibilities for Consorts in cases where an Escort cannot be alive, but this should be the first claim for a Consorts.

Investigator Edit

InvestigatorConsigliere, or Mayor - Your target has sensitive information to reveal.

Pros

  1. You can accuse people if you 'get lucky' and correctly accuse one of your enemies that is not Town.
  2. Once you get proven, it's nearly impossible to 'disprove' you
  3. The investigative result is 2/3 good.
  4. People are very reluctant to lynch Town Investigative roles, especially in situations like Ranked where Townies only have 2.
  5. Some people are also very reluctant to even begin voting, as mayors who reveal on the stand tend to lynch their accusers.
  6. You can easily support another Investigator to lynch a Townie, this is especially effective if both of you are confirmed.

Cons

  1. Very easy to disprove by the method 'What's my role' unless you're a Consigliere.
  2. You're a target for the opposing killing roles as they want you dead.

What roles should claim this:

Consigliere. Read the Consigliere page for more strategies regarding writing of a Last Will and more. However, a Spy can foil your plans, if they see a pattern of visits.

Sheriff Edit

Sheriff, Executioner, or Werewolf - Your target is waiting for the perfect moment to strike.

Pros

  1. You can prove yourself once you lynch an evil role like a Serial Killer.

Cons

  1. You are a target of the Mafia, Serial Killer, Werewolf, etc.
  2. People would also think that you are an Executioner.

What roles should claim this:

Executioners that don't have a better claim.

Consiglieres that have found a Serial Killer/Werewolf.

Jailor Edit

SpyBlackmailer or Jailor - Your target knows your darkest secrets.

Pros

  1. If the Jailor is cleaned, in game modes such as Ranked where a Jailor has to be present, it's a workable claim as the Jailor is an important role, so the Town Protective roles will stay on you while the Town has no reason to lynch you as, "The real Jailor would execute me."

Cons

  1. Actually impossible to prove.
  2. The real Jailor is most likely going to execute you. (So don't claim this role if the real Jailor is still alive.)
  3. Every killing role will be going after you, so get ready to get killed by everyone.

What roles should claim this:

Members of the Mafia that know that the real Jailor is dead, but cleaned.

A member of the Mafia whose death is certain but still has allies to depend on. The real Jailor will almost always execute you, but you will not die to the Town lynching you and waste the Jailor's night and execution.

Lookout Edit

LookoutForger, or Amnesiac - Your target sticks to the shadows.

Pros

  1. The Town may assume you're an Amnesiac stalling for time.
  2. If you happen to accidentally 'prove' yourself by randomly guessing, you can accuse freely and if the person you accused is a visiting role, it's even better.

Cons

  1. Cannot prove yourself (ex. You, watch X tonight and see who visited said person)
  2. Many Executioners claim this role to frame their target.

What roles should claim this:

Forger, as the investigative result will turn up with both Lookout and Forger. However, if it is clear there is an active Forger, many people suspect lookout claims, so this might not be your best bet.

Framer to accuse people once "confirmed" as a Lookout, before framing him to allow Town Investigative roles to confirm your accusation

Mayor Edit

InvestigatorConsigliere, or Mayor - Your target has sensitive information to reveal.

Pros

  1. If a miracle comes and you 'prove' yourself as Mayor, you can lynch anyone you want without any consequences (other than getting criticized by less gullible Townies). Most people believe the Mayor over anyone else, even confirmed Townies.

Cons

  1. You'll be asked to reveal, which you can't.
  2. Even if you convince everyone that you're after the Incognito (win without revealing) Achievement, you'll probably be killed anyway by a lot of people such as, suspicious Vigilantes or other killing roles who actually believe that you're the Mayor.

What roles should claim this

None other than Mayors, unless you're playing in Classic Mode as there are many newer players in there.

Medium Edit

MediumJanitor, or Retributionist - Your target works with dead bodies.

Pros

  1. Impossible for the real Medium to prove himself unless someone gets revived, in which case, you're screwed.

Cons

  1. It's impossible to prove yourself.
  2. As mentioned, if the true Medium proves said self, you're screwed.
  3. The town dislikes mediums, so if you claim it on the stand you'll probably still be executed.
  4. A very common claim by evils.

What roles should claim this:

All evil roles that can't find a better claim.

Retributionist Edit

MediumJanitor, or Retributionist - Your target works with dead bodies.

Pros

  1. If someone was revived the same day the Retributionist was killed and cleaned, you can confirm yourself.

Cons

  1. Role is unique
  2. If an important role such as a Jailor dies and you fail to revive said person, you will be lynched.
  3. The real Retributionist (if applicable) will be the first to whisper to the revived target while you will have to type out yours, making their claim more convincing.

Survivor Edit

SurvivorVampire Hunter or Witch - Your target keeps to themselves.

Pros

  1. You can explain your Night Immunity.
  2. You can convince everyone to leave you alone so that you can "win".

Cons

  1. Many people dislike Survivors and thus lynch them or kill them.
  2. You can't really prove yourself.
  3. It's the most common claim by killing roles, leading back to point one.

What roles should claim this:

All night immune roles or Neutral roles that can't find a better claim. Witch could also use this, as it does fall under its investigation list.

Jester or "Reverse Psychology" Edit

FramerVampire or Jester - Your target may not be what they seem. This is also the framed message.

There are a few variants of this technique.

  1. Ask to be lynched
  2. Claim a role as a member of the Mafia (also known as telling the truth)
  3. Pretend to be an Executioner before suddenly claiming, "Fine, since you guys don't believe me, lynch me first," and insisting on that statement - they will believe that you're a Jester.

Pros

  1. The Town will largely ignore you, especially if you're annoying (note that spamming is not encouraged)
  2. You can deliver messages for the Mafia in broad daylight e.g., "Witch stop controlling our Mafioso," the Town will think you're furthering the lie but the witch will know that the person she controlled was the mafioso.
  3. Even if a Sheriff investigates and you turn out to be a member of the Mafia, the Town might assume that the Mafia Framer framed you to further the lie - in hopes that the 'Jester' will kill someone.

Cons

  1. You are very likely to get killed by a Town Killing role.
  2. Once the Town is desperate of lynching an evil role, you'll be voted up for lack of a better person to accuse.
  3. This is a grey area in the rules and can be seen as some by gamethrowing.

What roles should claim this:

Any desperate 'evil' roles that lack a better claim.

Best on Framer and Vampire as their investigative result includes the Jester in it.

Executioner Edit

SheriffExecutioner or Werewolf - Your target is waiting for the perfect moment to strike.

Pros

  1. Explains Night Immunity.

Cons

  1. You might be lynched as an Executioner, or executed by the Jailor.
  2. When you're a 'confirmed Executioner', the Town will very likely lynch you if they have no one better to lynch as a Neutral role that's night immune and can win with everyone can be dangerous.

What roles should claim this:

Evil roles that don't have a better claim.

Werewolves when a Townie is lynched, as Werewolves are also found in the same investigative result as Executioners. However, the Jailor may also just execute you, as there is no harm in killing an Executioner, especially if they have won.
